The SHINE Supply programme acknowledges recent measures announced by officials in both the Federal Regions of Somalia and Somaliland to limit the spread of Covid-19 and to prepare for a possible outbreak. Plans to mitigate the impact of the virus must move forward urgently before it gains a foothold.

The threat of further strain on health services from the Covid-19 virus is an enormous risk for communities and SHINE Supply will continue to support these health care systems that have already been impacted greatly by protracted crises.

In response to the outbreak, we are doing all we can to fast-track and adapt the Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS) to the new and urgent needs of the Somali people. We will also take measures to ensure that health workers are using the correct personal protective equipment and that health facilities are prepared for the inevitable disturbances to the health care system.

The proposed interventions will be developed in close collaboration with our partners – the Ministries of Health, DFID, UNICEF, WHO, PSI and other relevant health sector partners.

We encourage the Somali population to closely follow government guidelines, such as social distancing and hand washing.
